TV Show Appearances
The 'Rocketman's TV career was short and $weet. Two appearances - "To Tell The Truth" on Wednesday 10/18/61 and with Wendall Moore on "I've Got a Secret".
"To Tell the Truth"
This show was taped on October 18, 1961 and aired on CBS - October 23, 1961. I was "interviewed" by one Suzy Parker as a 'test panelist' to insure, I guess, that I wouldn't 'freeze on camera' or some such. Ms. Parker was an actress/model of some note, at the time. I was shocked at how thin she appeared in real life.
The show's moderator was Bud Collier and the panelists were Tom Postem, Kitty Karlyle [sp?], Jane Meadows, and Johnny Carson. Here's the gig. Three guys all claimed to be 'Harold Graham - the World's First Rocket Belt Pilot'. The panel asked questions for five minutes trying to determine who were imposters - and who was the real rocketman. The first two panelists - Postem & Meadow's got it right [#1 - me]; Karlyle & Carson guessed wrong [#2 - Gene Hobin]. I received $241.66 which included '$75 expenses' [25/day]- which meant receiving $83.33 for each of two incorrect answers. Incidentally, the airfare on AA round trip Buffalo to LaGuardia was $50.05 !
The two imposters were #2 - Gene E. Hoban of the Dover Corp., Elevator Division of NY - who sold elevators - and #3 - Dennis Denenor of the Kohler Corp. who sold plumbing fixtures.
Side Note: I have a 10 minute audio tape of this show segment. If someone out there knows how to transfer this to a sound file [of reasonable size] that could be downloaded from this site to viewers like you - let me know at graham@usit.net .
